TYPE II DIABETES

Type 2 diabetes is an impairment in how one's body regulates and handles sugar, also known as glucose, as energy.

While this condition can mean too much sugar circulating in the bloodstream, high blood sugar levels can ultimately lead to circulatory, nervous, and immune systems issues.

It's important to mention...Type 2 Diabetes is unique and different from Type 1 Diabetes.

In patients who have Type 2 Diabetes, the problem is typically that the body can't effectively use the insulin it's producing – not that it doesn't have enough insulin available for the body's needs.

It's simple - I'm going to use an easy scenario to help explain Type 2 Diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes Explained

Just imagine a baseball glove and a baseball, and that you're playing catch. If you're using a brand new glove, you've nothing to worry about; however, if your glove is worn out, you can start to notice some problems.

Now think of it this way:

  • Your glove has insulin receptors
  • Insulin is a baseball that must attach itself to the glove's receptors

So - the baseball (insulin) must attach to the glove (which has the receptors) for the body to properly function;

When this happens correctly, the insulin binds to the receptors, opens a key/channel, and allows the sugars to come down from the bloodstream into the cell, allowing your cell to produce the proper amounts of ATP or energy.

But here is where we run into some problems.

We have an old glove with worn receptors that can no longer hold or receive the incoming insulin or baseball. The issue occurs because the sugars will now stay in your bloodstream and destroy other cells in areas of your body. After all, it cannot attach itself to the receptors.

This means you can start to feel a myriad of negative symptoms, which can signal to your body that something is wrong.

Type 2 Diabetes Symptoms

These tend to develop over a more extended period. While weight or body fatness is an issue in the etiology of this syndrome, other factors such as poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle cannot be ruled out.

When symptoms are present, they can include:

  • Increased thirst
  • Frequent urination
  • Increased hunger
  • Unintended weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Blurred vision
  • Frequent infections
  • Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet
  • Areas of darkened skin, usually in the armpits and neck

I further break down some of the misconceptions and realities of Type 2 Diabetes in my latest video and explain how Type 2 Diabetes can end up causing a myriad of symptoms.
